Synopsis : Sarah Connor et son fils John se retrouvent seuls dans un monde hostile et complexe, après être venus à bout du Terminator. Ils fuient la loi et doivent combattre des ennemis en provenance du présent comme du futur. Sarah décide alors qu'il est temps de cesser de courir et d'affronter ses assaillants de face.

Sarah reevaluates the capabilities of her friend Andy's computer after he enters it in a chess competition. During the competition, Sarah meets a stranger with a history similar to hers. Meanwhile, Agent Ellison finds remnants from a past terminator confrontation leading him closer to both Sarah, and the terminator Cromartie, now in the form of George Laszlo.

With Derek Reese severely injured, Sarah calls on her former fiancé Charlie Dixon, an EMT, to provide medical assistance. She also finds herself having to explain where she has been for the last 8 years and just who Derek is and where he is from. In flashbacks (of a sort) we learn of Derek's life in the future as a resistance fighter, his relationship with John Connor and of his travel back in time with a team sent to protect Sarah and John. He doesn't realize however that his brother Kyle is John's father.

Meanwhile, Cromartie closes in on John at his school, while Cameron thinks of a way to throw him off John's trail. Derek recalls his childhood days before the so-called Judgement Day in 2011, four years from now which a nuclear war triggered by Skynet will destroy the world. Elsewhere, Agent Ellison discovers a nemesis at the agency when he finally learns about the terminator Cromartie impersonating an FBI agent.
